My lower back is connected to my family because when there are problems within my family my lower back goes as stiff as a milk turd. After a emotionally connected Easter weekend to the lack of tradition within my immediate family I knew that doing squats this morning would be suicide for my lower back.
I decided after waking at 5 a.m. that I would forgo traditional back squats and do drop sets with MF squats. I learned about them in the Marine Corps and Marines do them to punish each other and believe me they are brutal and unforgiving. I realized after hurting my lower back multiple times doing traditional barbell squats that I could still get punished doing these.
"Monkey Fornicators" are what a few of us Mormons came up with as an alternative to what Marines traditionally call them. Use your imagination and I bet you can figure it out. The Army calls them "Jane Fonda's" because the military feels that Jane Fonda sold us out to the North Vietnamese during Vietnam and it's their way of getting back at her I guess. The Marines have cadences about her.
I shortened the term and just call them MF squats to make it easier but to get a reaction I may start calling them Monkey Fornicators again. Anyway, they are brutal and a good alternative for those that do not have a barbell or who have backs that don't allow them to do barbell squats.
Drop sets mean that you do a full set, then immediately drop the weight and do another set with little to no rest. https://www.muscleandstrength.com/articles/understanding-drop-sets-for-muscle-building.html I use a chain belt to hang dumbbells between my legs which allows me to use weight. A buddy in Hawaii, Keola Boak, saw me doing them once and called them "Dong Dips."
I don't have a picture or video and I promise to follow up with a blog post with a video but to do them you just do regular squats but hold your ankles or your toes the whole time. This prevents your legs from straightening and keeps tension on your quads the whole time. They are painful but very effective.
